Recap[]

While setting up for a motorcycle show at the car wash, John discovers that the building has been tagged again. Bay defends the artwork, but John bashes it. Angelo is doing handiwork at the Kennish house and Kathryn confronts him about the nurse in the pictures, Leanne. He explains that he was involved with her but didn't want to tell anyone because he didn't want Regina to know.

Zarra finds out Bay owns the car she's seen around town and she wants to paint it. Kathryn tells John that Bay is actually angry about the show, not the art, because it reminds her of Emmett. Emmett picks up his credentials at the show with Daphne, and right behind them is Robin Swiller, another deaf motorcycle enthusiast.

At the Kennish house, Toby is playing video games. Kathryn wants him to perform at the motorcycle show because he should get back to his passion. He tells her he's fine and she promises not to interfere again.

Robin and Emmett hit it off. Daphne takes notice, claiming she's his ideal girl (deaf and into motorcycles), and he should go for it. He says he's waiting for Bay. Angelo tries to bond with Daphne but she deflects him, saying they don't have to be friends.

Regina confesses to Kathryn she always felt insecure with Angelo because other women were always flirting with him. Daphne and Bay talk about the show, and Daphne tells Bay she needs to tell Emmett to move on or he'll wait around forever.

Regina is walking down the street and spots a man handling liquor to Simone outside a store; she scolds the man and directs Simone to come with her. Kathryn asks Toby to come with her to drop off donations for a rummage sale at the church.

Bay and her new street art friends are tagging an alley when the police show up. The others flee, but Bay and Zarra are left behind. The officer checks Bay's ID and asks if she's related to John Kennish, leaving Zarra to realize Bay lied about her name. The officer lets them go and Zarra leaves, disappointed about Bay. Later, John asks why Bay's not wearing her shirt for the motorcycle show, and Bay calls it "a shirt proclaiming I'm a Kennish." While talking to Emmett, Bay is convinced she should tell John she tagged the wall.

At the church, Toby sees Kathryn brought his guitar. She confesses she brought him there to perform at their old church group's party. Although he angrily tells Kathryn she's not helping, she convinces him to play.

In Regina's car, Simone tells Regina she's not going to AA meetings anymore because they weren't working for her, but Regina retorts that it's not supposed to be easy. Simone confesses no one at school likes her now, but Regina tells her she needs to move on or she'll never overcome this.

Daphne stops by the Kennish house to pick something up and finds Angelo lying on the floor because a nail gun punctured his house. She takes him to the hospital, and while they're in the waiting room, Daphne tells him to groan so that they'll get seen quicker. A nurse comes up to them to tell them it'll be a moment, then asks if Daphne is Angelo's daughter since it was left blank on the form. Daphne responds no, disappointing Angelo.

At the church party, a girl named Nikki is performing onstage. Before Toby's turn, the host then introduces him as Guitar Face, which upsets Toby. He tries to leave, and in his anger, he admits to Kathryn that Simone slept with Emmett. As the church group waits for him to perform, Kathryn takes his place singing on stage. Toby gives in and performs with her. Nikki watches, smiling.

In John's office Bay admits she tagged the wall and that it's not the first time, and that street art is a part of her. John tells her he feels like he doesn't know her. She tearfully tells Emmett she knew he'd be mad, but Robin interrupts and Bay leaves because she wants Emmett to move on.

Nikki invites Toby to another event. Toby admits he's not necessarily a Christian so this was sort of a one-time thing. At the hospital, Angelo tells Daphne she eventually has to forgive him and he's trying to make amends. He makes a similar speech to Regina when she later jokes about him meeting another nurse in the ER.

John tells Kathryn Bay tagged the wall. Daphne gives a gift to Angelo as a peace offering: heavy duty gloves. Bay explains to Zarra that she's a Vasquez and a Kennish. Zarra admits she thought they were really alike, and Bay says she understands a part of her life that no one else gets. They then start to brainstorm street art names for Bay.

Quotes[]

Bay: The truth is I'm kind of Bay Vasquez and Bay Kennish at the same time.
John: I wouldn't call us absent parents but we did miss something else pretty big for 16 years.
Angelo: [to Daphne] Some day you're gonna have to forgive me. Leaving you and Regina was wrong, but I'm here now trying to make up for it.
John: [to Bay] I feel like I don't know you.
Regina: Listen to me, you are not the worst thing you've ever done. You did something thoughtless, people suffered, you try to make amends and you move on.
Daphne: [to Emmett] She's cute, she's deaf, and she's into motorcycles. She's the perfect girl for you.
Kathryn: [about Bay] She's a teenage girl. It's easier for her to yell at us about one thing when she's upset about another.
Bay: It is people who are otherwise invisible, expressing themselves the only way they know how.

Trivia[]

  • When John says "It's like painting a mustache on the Mona Lisa", he is referring to Marcel Duchamp's readymade painting "L.H.O.O.Q".
